There is no dearth of schooling options in Dominican Republic. Education is provided through religious schools. Higher education in Dominican Republic is accompanied with American and European curriculum. Elementary education is free for children between 7 to 14 years of age. Though children living in remote areas have not good access to schools. Primary schooling is followed by a two-year intermediate school and a four-year secondary course, after which a diploma called the bachillerato is awarded.
The education program in Dominican Republic is not very supportive for people living under lower income group. The children belonging to wealthiest class mostly attend private schools. The students who successfully complete secondary education join university colleges but the number of such students is few.
Dominican Republic also offers some vocational education particularly in the areas of agriculture through public and private institutes.
